[ ] explores the known and imagined histories of female and femme ancestors. We imagine [ ]’s golden objects as portals into some of these ancestral stories. Each object invites us, through its simple imagery and our individual associations with it, to imagine possible parts of our histories: our connection to past, present, and future.
In creating the “soundbanks” housed within our interactive sculpture, composer Angélica Negrón has been recording the creative ensemble telling their own stories of ancestral and familial association with the objects. She then micro-samples these into the sonic environments for the work.
We invite you to contribute your own story or short oral history in response to the work or one of the objects.
If you’d like to contribute:
Possible starting points might be:
Describe a family story you know or imagine in relation to one or more objects
Share any associations that come up for you in relationship to the objects
Sing a song (or part of one) that you associate with an object, or make one up
If you could add your own golden object to our group, what would it be?
We look forward to receiving your contribution! With your permission, we will credit you as a contributor to the work, although let us know in your email if you prefer to remain anonymous.
